This Waqf aims to provide resources for the repairs and rehabilitation of the masjid that are situated in economically challenged communities across South Africa.
Purpose of the Masjid Upliftment Waqf
With over 800 masjids in South Africa and a growing rate of new Muslims in South Africa, the masjid serves as a place of worship and sanctum for all Muslims. Traditionally communities and trustees have been responsible for maintaining their local masjid.
Many emerging communities and some less advantaged communities struggle to maintain the upkeep of their facility. There exists a major disparity between masjids located in affluent areas in comparison to historically disadvantaged areas and this fact presents the opportunity to ensure that ALL masjids are supported to make the places of worship self-sustaining dignified sites that become the centre of influence within communities and local musalleehs are able to pray in peace and comfort.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him likewise in Paradise.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]
