Artist Profile: Atika Plato- Hoosen
Atika Plato-Hoosen, founder of The Healing Arts finds her is inspiration in the rich legacy of traditional Islamic art. She is actively involved in promoting Islamic art at both community and professional levels in the form of art classes and art related workshops. She offers private art lessons at the Healing Art Studio and also freelances at different Schools.
Her passion for art began at the Battswood Art Centre, which formed the foundation that nurtured her natural artistic skills.
The year 2013 was a milestone in Atika’s journey, under the guidance of Achmat Soni, she discovered the beauty of Islamic Art. Her first Traditional Islamic Art piece “Illumination” was symbolic of her new found ambitions, inspired by the opening chapter of the Quran, Surah Al-Fatiha.
She joined SAFIA in 2015 and aims to revive Islamic art in communities. Arabic calligraphy and geometric patterns are her areas of interest.
She started her Arabic and Quraan studies in 2011 and many of her artworks are inspired by the beautiful verses of the Holy Quran. Her art is a means of spiritual expression and upliftment.
She draws her inspiration from the following Hadeeth:
“Allah is beautiful and Allah loves beauty”

The legacy of Islamic art is important to our community because it expresses the beauty of the remembrance of Allah.
