Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi wa barakato
Mohammad Qaaid is a 7 Month old Preterm baby born at 30 weeks with the birth weight of only 1740g, spending his first 30 days in the neonatal ICU. At his bi annual 6 month (currently weighing less than 7kg ) check up, ultrasounds and testing was done only for us to find out that he has a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia.
Biliary Atresia is when the bile fluids ( toxins ) are not able to drain from the liver into the small intenstines due to the bile ducts ( tubes ) being collapsed or in Qaaids case the not having formed. This in turn creates the bile ( toxins ) to remain in the liver and causes the liver to become infected, these infections cause the liver to deterioate due to the bile ( toxins ) not being able to drain out as it should. There are other side effects which come with Biliary Artesia and one of those being Jaundice ( eyes and skin turn yellow ).
The only treatment/solution would be a liver transplant which will take place in Johannesburg, this needs to happen as soon as possible and as soon as the infection dissappears. Alhamdulilah his father was a match to the same blood group as Qaaid so therefore his father will be the donor. We are trying our very best to rasie funds for expenses for when we are there as we are currently situated in Cape Town. We estimated R350 000 to cover the for the transplant, accommodation ( we would have to stay in Johannesburg for up to 6 months for continous check ups and blood work to be done), travelling and post op medical expenses.
We as a family would really appreciate any donation towards Mohammad Qaaids transplant.
