West Coast Assist - Project
WHAT WE DO
The West Coast Assist NPC feeding scheme is based in Langebaan which feeds needy families on a regular
basis. Huge pots of food are cooked and then decanted into individual containers to feed people hot meals.
The groceries for the West Coast Assist NPC food Hampers are sourced in the Western Cape, packed in
Langebaan and distributed to poor and needy people living in Langebaan, Long Acres, Vredenburg,
Hopefield and Saldanha.
Covid 19 Relief
The West Coast Assist NPC collaborated with bread producing companies for the daily supply of loaves of
bread to numerous poor and needy families in and around Langebaan. In addition, the collection drive for
groceries for the food hampers intensified as the need increased over this challenging period. As a result
of the National lockdown due to Covid 19, food hampers are regularly distributed on the West Coast and in
Cape Town, subject to donor funding.
In 2006 two of the directors of West Coast Assist NPC witnessed severe poverty on the West Coast of
South Africa and the dire need for relief.
The relief was created in the form of a feeding scheme and the distribution of food hampers to impoverished
communities. The feeding of the poor and needy was done on an informal basis for many years with the
assistance of private donors and personal contributions by the directors.
In 2017 the third director joined forces and assisted in increasing the donor base which expanded the poverty
relief program into other towns and suburbs on the West Coast.
In 2019 a decision was made to formalize the poverty relief initiatives on the West Coast by registering a
non-profit company with the specific aims and objectives to alleviate poverty and create job opportunities
by developing skills.
West Coast Assist NPC, a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 244-926), is currently based in
Langebaan and has a working relationship with the Department of Social Development on the West Coast
and other organisations.
A key focus area West Coast Assist NPC intend pursuing in the near future is the establishment of a skills
development center in Langebaan or in the surrounding area which will introduce new skills or enhance the
existing skills that will benefit and create employment.
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Education is a great concern on the West Coast for the underprivilege and
impoverished communities. West Coast Assist NPC intends supporting families who are struggling to feed
their school going children or pay school/tuition fees.
